Shinko Asian Pear Tree (Pyrus pyrifolia ‘Shinko’)

The Shinko Asian pear tree combines the crunch of apples with the sweetness of pears. This pear is crisp and less juicy making it perfect for salads, tortes, dehydrating and other dishes that benefit from lower sugary juice content.

Sunlight: Full sun minimum 6 hrs per day.

Soil: Well-drained loamy or sandy soil with a pH level of 6.0 to 7.0.

Water: Water weekly until established. Water established trees deeply as needed.

Fertilizer: Use a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer in the spring.

The Shinko Asian pear combines the crunch of apples with the sweetness of pears. This variety produces medium sized fruit with a yellow or golden-brown skin and firm white flesh. This pear is crisp and less juicy making it perfect for eating fresh, salads, tortes, dehydrating and other dishes that benefit from lower sugary juice content.

Plant in full sun and grows best in well-drained rich soil. The Shinko pear requires cross-pollination. It’s essential to have other pear varieties nearby for successful fruit production. This variety of Asian pear is resistant to fire blight. Average height 12′ – 20′ and 9′ – 13′ width. Required Chill Hours: 300-500. USDA hardiness zones 5 – 8.
