Bing Cherry Tree (Prunus avium ‘Bing’)

The Bing Cherry tree is the result of cross pollinating between the Black Republican and the Royal Ann (Napoleon) cherry trees. Bings are large, dark and firm cherries that have a sweet and slightly tart flavor. They are perfect for eating fresh, deserts, baking, and brandied cherries.

Sunlight: Full sun 6-8 hours daily.

Soil: Optimal soil is well-drained and sandy.

Water: Keep the young tree moist, as cherries are not drought tolerant.

Temperature and Humidity: Bing cherries need 700 chill hours below 45°F to fruit.

The Bing Cherry tree is the result of cross pollinating between the Black Republican and the Royal Ann (Napoleon) cherry trees. This tree will bloom in early spring with white fragrant flowers. The cherries will be ready to pick beginning in June and throughout the summer. Bings are large, dark and firm cherries that have a sweet and slightly tart flavor. They are perfect for eating fresh, deserts, baking, and brandied cherries. 

Plant in full sun in well drained loamy or sandy soil. Bing cherry trees are not self-pollinating. In order to get fruit, you will need to plant a second cherry tree nearby for cross-pollination. A dry-summer climate is required for the harvest of the Bing cherry, making them especially well adapted to the climates of the Pacific Northwest and California Average height 35′ and width 25′. Required Chill Hours: 700 – 1000. USDA Hardiness Zones 5 – 8.
