Jonagold Apple Tree (Malus domestica ‘Jonagold’)

The Jonagold apple combines the finest qualities of the Golden Delicious and Jonathan apple varieties. The fruit develops into a large size, boasting a crimson red hue with touches of green-yellow. It has a thin, crisp skin, and the flesh inside is juicy, fragrant, and sweet. The Jonagold apple is ideal for fresh consumption, salads, baking, cider-making, preserves, and canning.

Sunlight: They grow well in full sun

Soil: Well-drained soil that is rich and loamy.

Water: Water weekly until established. Water established trees deeply as needed. You may need to water more often in times of extreme heat or drought.

Pruning: Regular pruning is needed to maintain tree health and maximize fruit production.

The Jonagold apple combines the finest qualities of the Golden Delicious and Jonathan apple varieties. It thrives in cool climates and has a good tolerance for frost, but it does not withstand drought conditions well. It typically ripens in mid-September into October and holds well in the refrigerator for a few months. The fruit develops into a large size, boasting a crimson red hue with touches of green-yellow. It has a thin, crisp skin, and the flesh inside is juicy, fragrant, and sweet. The Jonagold apple is ideal for fresh consumption, salads, baking, cider-making, preserves, and canning.

Plant in full sun and well-drained soil.  The Jonagold is not self-pollinating and requires cross-pollination. This variety is a triploid which prefers two other apple cultivars for pollination. Example pollinators include Gala, Empire, Fuji, and Honeycrisp.  Average height 10′ – 15′ and width 10′ – 15′. Required Chill Hours: 700 – 800. USDA Hardiness Zones: 5 – 8.
