Red Chief Nectarine Tree (Prunus persica var. nucipersica ‘Red Chief’)

The Red Chief nectarine produces medium-sized, freestone fruit with red skin and yellow, firm, and juicy. The fruit has both sweet and tangy notes with well-balanced tase making them perfect for eating fresh, baking and preserving.  The Red Chief nectarine can tolerate heat and humidity but cannot tolerate extreme winter cold or late frost.

Sunlight: Plant in full sun

Soil: Well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 is recommended.

Water: Water weekly until established. Water established trees deeply as needed. You may need to water more often in times of extreme heat or drought.

Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring, just before new growth begins.

Pruning: Pruning may be needed to remove dead branches, encourage bushier growth, promote more flowers, or maintain a specific size or shape.
